Overview

By themselves, Use Case Scenarios are not considered to be complete Requirements specifications. To fully document Use Case specifications, you must also link them to non-functional Requirements and Business Rules. TopTeam allows you to link Requirements and Business Rules to the Use Case or to individual steps within a Use Case.

To link Requirements to Use Case Steps, follow these instructions:

Adding and linking a new Requirement to a Use Case Step

If you discover a new Requirement or Business Rule while authoring Use Case Flow-of-events, you can quickly add it to the Repository and link it to a specific Use Case Step with a single action.

To create a Requirement and link it to a specific step of the Use Case follow these steps:

Go to the desired step of the Use Case and click Link on the toolbar.

Choose Create and Link Requirement from the drop-down menu.

A Requirements Editor will appear. Choose the destination Requirements Document for this new Requirement. Enter a Title and a Description for the Requirement and click Save.

The application will create the Requirement in the selected Requirements Document and embed a link to that Requirement in the Use Case step. It will also automatically create a Traceability link from that Requirement to the current Use Case.

When you embed a link to a new Business Rule or Requirement record from the Use Case Flow-of-events editor, TopTeam creates the Requirement in the Requirements document and it also automatically creates Trace link between the new Requirement and the Use Case.

Linking an existing Requirement with the Use Case

If you find that an existing Requirement or Business Rule is applicable to a Use Case Step, you can quickly link the existing record to the Use Case Step.

To link an existing Requirement to a specific step of the Use Case, follow these steps:

Go to the desired step of the Use Case and click Link on the toolbar.
