Installing TopTeam Application Server for Firebird Database

TopTeam Application Server for Firebird Database has been retired.

This article describes how to install TopTeam Application Server for Firebird Database.

NOTE: This article is applicable if you are installing TopTeam Application Server for Firebird Database for TopTeam version 10 or lower. If you are upgrading, we highly recommend you that you must upgrade to the latest version and migrate to other databases supported by TopTeam.

Firebird is an Open Source RDBMS database that comes with TopTeam Application Server as out-of-the-box database. Firebird is a good scalable database, suitable for small size teams.

TopTeam Application Server can be installed on a personal computer or a Windows Server computer. When evaluating TopTeam, you can even install TopTeam Application Server on a laptop, however, for production usage you should use a desktop or a server class computer.

We recommend you to install TopTeam Application Server on the latest Windows Server computer.

You need Windows Administrator privileges to install TopTeam Application Server as a Windows Service and to install Firebird Database Server.

You do not need to purchase a license upfront to install and evaluate TopTeam. By default,TopTeam Application Server will start in an evaluation mode if you do not provide a valid license key.
Upon expiration of the evaluation period, TopTeam Application Server will stop running.

To continue using TopTeam, you need to purchase a permanent license key or contact your TechnoSolutions sales representative for an extension key.

• Download the latest TopTeam Application Server installer from the TechnoSolutions Customer Portal (access to Customer Portal is available only to licensed customers) or use the download link provided by TechnoSolutions.

The installer file name format is: TopTeamIBServerLic_Installer_<TopTeam Application Server Version>_DB_<TopTeam Database Schema Version Required>_<Release Date>.exe

e.g. TopTeamIBServerLic_Installer_5.0_DB_8.0_31Jul14.exe

In the example above:
5.0 – is the version number of TopTeam Application Server
8.0 – is the TopTeam database version which will be installed by this installer
31Jul14 – is the release date of this TopTeam Application Server

• Ensure that the computer on which you will install TopTeam Application Server meets the System Requirements for TopTeam Application Server.

Double-click TopTeam Application Server installation file.

Usually both TopTeam Application Server and Firebird database are installed on the same computer. However, you have the option to install the Firebird database on a different computer.

• Choose option 1 (TopTeam Server for Firebird and Firebird Database Server) if you want to install TopTeam Application Server and Firebird database on the same computer.
• Choose option 2 (TopTeam Server for Firebird) if you want to install only TopTeam Application Server.
• Choose option 3 (Firebird Database Server) to install only Firebird Database Server.

If you have selected the option to install Firebird Database Server on previous page, i.e. option 1 and 3, clicking Next starts the Firebird Database Server installation wizard.

Carefully read the License Agreement. After reading the License Agreement, select “I accept the agreement” and click Next to proceed to the next step.

Choose a folder to install Firebird Database Server on your computer. We recommend that you keep at least 2 GB of free disk space on the drive where you install Firebird Database Server.

Default Folder: C:\Program Files\TechnoSolutions TopTeam\Firebird.

Review the installation summary for Firebird Database Server. Click Install to proceed.

Click Finish to complete the Firebird Database Server installation. If you have selected the option 1 or 2 on the Setup Type page, the wizard will then proceed with the installation of TopTeam Application Server.

Carefully read the License Agreement. After reading it, choose “I accept the agreement” and click Next to proceed to the next step.

Choose the folder where you want to install TopTeam Application Server for Firebird on your computer. Ensure that you have READ and WRITE permissions on this folder. We recommend that you keep at least 2 GB of free disk space on the drive where you install TopTeam Application Server for log files which are created while the application is running.

Default Folder: C:\Program Files\TechnoSolutions TopTeam\Application Server for Firebird Server.

You can easily change this location anytime in the future.

Specify the folder where the TopTeam Database files should be stored. Ensure that you have READ and WRITE permissions on this folder. The size of the files will increase during usage. We recommend that you keep at least 2 GB of free disk space on the drive where you install the TopTeam Database files for production usage.

Default folder: C:\Program Files\TechnoSolutions TopTeam\TopTeam Database Files

You can easily change this location anytime in the future.

TopTeam Application Server can be installed in two modes:

1. Install as Windows Service (Recommended)
Choose this option to install TopTeam Application Server as a Windows Service. You must log in as a Windows Administrator for this.

2. Install as Application
Choose this option to install TopTeam Application Server as Windows Application. Use this option if you do not have Windows Administrator privileges on the computer and want to evaluate TopTeam.

We recommend you to go with option 1 unless you don’t have Windows Administrator privileges on this computer.

You can always change this configuration setting later.

Click Install to proceed with the installation.

Select the check box option to create shortcut for TopTeam Application Server on the desktop. Click “Finish” to exit the installation wizard.

After successful completion of installation, Management Console for TopTeam Application Server will be launched automatically, if you have installed TopTeam Application Server as a Windows Service.
If you have installed TopTeam Application Server as a Windows Application, it will start in Application Mode and the Server Configuration Wizard will be launched automatically.
